<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver capable of shortening a period of time for synchronization capture at the time of transmitting and receiving a signal by using a pulse string spread by a spreading code, and to provide a communication apparatus using the receiver. <P>SOLUTION: This synchronization detection type receiver receives a pulse signal spread by the spreading code as a received signal. The receiver is provided with a sequential searching part 0120 for searching a pulse position of the received signal by sequential searching, a code correlating part 0130 for calculating a cross-correlation value between a search result output outputted in each pulse cycle of a pulse signal and the diffusion code and outputting a cross-correlation value, and a signal detection/synchronization control part 0140 for detecting the peak of the cross-correlation value, determining the existence of the received signal and controlling the next search position of a pulse position in the sequential searching part on the basis of the determination result.
