PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper money identification device with which a user of an automatic vending machine, etc. easily find a paper money insertion port and thus, of which the operability is enhanced. SOLUTION: The paper money identification device is constituted so that the paper money insertion port 3 is illuminated by arranging an insertion port illumination means 14 in one chute member 12 forming a paper money insertion port 3 of a pair of chute members 12, 13 constituting the paper money insertion port 3 and a reflection member 15 reflects illuminated light B from an insertion port illumination means 14 and also reflects disturbance light A entering from the paper money insertion port 3 by arranging the reflection member 15 in the other chute member 13 forming the paper money insertion port 3.
