PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor which has good cleaning property and high durability and realizes improved image quality over a prolonged period of time by forming a photosensitive layer with a clear crosslinked surface layer having high wear and scuffing resistances and good electrical properties and excellent particularly in smoothness; an image forming method using such a photoreceptor having a long operating life and high performances; an image forming apparatus; and a process cartridge for the image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: In the electrophotographic photoreceptor having at least a photosensitive layer on a conductive support, a surface layer of the photosensitive layer is a crosslinked surface layer formed by curing at least a trifunctional or higher functionality radical polymerizable monomer having no charge transport structure and a monofunctional radical polymerizable compound having a charge transport structure by applying photosetting and heat curing in combination. The crosslinked surface layer is preferably formed by carrying out curing by the photosetting and heat curing with a photopolymerization initiator and a heat curing initiator.
