PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the strippability (clad stripping-off property) of a clad made of, for example, thermoplastic resin formed by extrusion. SOLUTION: In a manufacturing apparatus of coated optical fiber, an extruder 4 which makes a coated optical fiber 1 by applying cladding of resin to a primary coated optical fiber 1A according to extrusion and a water tank 6 which cools the coated optical fiber 1 extruded from the extruder 4 by making the coated optical fiber 1 to run in water are arranged on a running line which draws the primary coated optical fiber 1A supplied from the upstream by means of a drawing device 8 disposed on the downstream part. Therein, the water tank 6 is movably arranged along the running line and a controller 100 which controls the drawing speed of the drawing device 8 in accordance with a measurement of an outer diameter measuring instrument 5 for measuring the outer diameter of the coated optical fiber 1 and controls the position of the water tank in accordance with the drawing speed and a water temperature of the water tank 6 is disposed just behind the extruder 4.
