PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To process only when a bar material is fed in an appropriate length in a lathe processing regarding a bar material transfer amount detecting device for a bar material feeder which automatically feeds the bar material to the bar material possessor such as a lathe. SOLUTION: This bar material transfer amount detecting device for the bar material feeder has a press bar 12 which transfers the bar material 14 by a driving force of a driving device in a longitudinal direction until the top end collides with a stopper 16 disposed on an opposite side to a main shaft, a transfer distance detector which detects the transfer distance d of the press bar 12, and an alarm device which performs alarm processing for lack of a transfer amount when the transfer distance d detected by the transfer distance detector does not reach a preset proper transfer distance D. Besides, in the bar material transfer amount detecting device, when the transfer distance detected by the transfer distance detector does not reach the preset proper transfer distance, an inching device which performs an inching motion of advance and retraction within a prescribed time to bring the top end of the bar material 14 into contact with the stopper 16 is provided with the press bar 12, and the alarm device performs the alarm processing when the transfer distance detector detects that the transfer distance by the inching motion within the prescribed time does not reach the preset proper transfer distance.
