PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle body component manufacturing method capable of manufacturing a vehicle body component having a highly complicated sectional shape while avoiding cracks to the utmost, and a pressing device suitable for implementing the method. SOLUTION: The pressing device comprises a lower die 3, an upper die 4, a movable nest 7 held retractably in the approaching/separating direction of both dies by the lower die 3, and a die cushion device 8 capable of energizing the movable nest 7 in a projecting direction. After a metallic plate M is set between the dies 3, 4, and the movable nest 7 projecting from the lower die 3 is pressed in the depressing direction by the upper die 4 to give the shape corresponding to a valley part to the metallic plate M held by the movable nest 7 and the upper die 4 (a first shaping step). Successively, the movable nest 7 and the lower die 3 are pressed in the depressing direction by the upper die 4 with the pressing force P not smaller than the set cushion force S of the die cushion device 8, and a shape corresponding to two ridge parts is given to the metallic plate M held by the dies 3, 4 while the movable nest 7 is retracted (a second shaping step).
