PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic power steering system capable of stabilizing a stream of an operating fluid in relieving pressure to prevent the occurrence of flow sound made by the rapid stream. SOLUTION: This hydraulic power steering system is provided with a rack shaft 4 meshed with a pinion shaft rotated interlocked with the rotating operation of a steering wheel; a power cylinder through which the rack shaft is inserted; a power piston 9 stuck onto the rack shaft to partition the inside of the power cylinder into two hydraulic chambers 10, 11; two hydraulic pipes 12, 13 connected to the power cylinder to independently supply and discharge the operating fluid to and from the two hydraulic chambers 10, 11; and a plurality of communicating grooves 23 formed in a circumferential direction of the inner peripheral surface of the power cylinder to communicate the two hydraulic chambers 10, 11 near the stroke end of the power piston.
