PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery in which simple mounting of a safety valve of the secondary battery is made possible and uniform actuation performance can be obtained, a cap assembly of the secondary battery, and a mounting method of the safety valve mounted on the cap assembly. SOLUTION: The secondary battery that houses an electrode group 10 in which plate a cathode 11 and an anode plate 12 are arranged via a separator 13 in the inside of a case 14 is provided with a stepped hole 22 having a stepped surface 21, and a safety valve 25 which is attached to the stepped surface 21 choking the stepped hole 22 and is opened by a set pressure conditionon, one side of the case 14. In this way, not by integrally forming the safety valve 25 in order to prevent an explosion occurring by an increased pressure inside the secondary battery in the cap assembly 30, but by separately installing it, the manufacturing process becomes easier, and the opening actuation condition of the safety valve 25 can be made uniform.
