PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide covered hexaboride particles which impart excellent durability to water, dispersibility, transparency, infrared ray shielding property, especially, stable durability to water for a long period of time when they are used by being mixed with a raw material of a thermoplastic resin, a thermosetting resin, an elastomer or a fiber or used by being applied on a substrate, a film or the like used in an optical member or the like, as a coating agent, a sealant or the like. SOLUTION: The surface of each hexaboride particle is covered with a silicone-based water-repellent treatment agent. In each covered hexaboride particle, a hexaboride particle is covered with a silicone-based water-repellent treatment agent containing a cohydrolyzed condensate obtained by subjecting (i) an organic silicon compound and (ii) an amino-group-containing alkoxysilane or its partial hydrolyzate or (i) the organic silicon compound, (ii) the component mentioned above in (ii), inorganic oxide particles and /or (iv) bis(alkoxysilyl) group-containing compound or it partial hydrolyzate to cohydrolysis condensation in the presence of an organic acid or an inorganic acid.
