[Class 132 (i)] In rowing-apparatus of the pivoted-lever type, the " oar " a is pivoted in and drives a sleeve d rotatably mounted on a sleeve e frictionally rotatable in a clamp f adjustably bolted at h to a fixed frame member j. A cross-bar o slidably mounted in longitudinal slots n in sleeve d is pressed by a light spring r to engage diametrically opposite buttress teeth k on sleeve e and its ends are shaped to coact with these teeth to rotate the sleeve e unidirectionally in the clamp f when the " oar " a is operated. The clamp comprises two plates f and a lining strip of leather or like material s apertured to receive the clamping bolt t, adjustment of the nut u on bolt t regulating the frictional resistance of the clamp. The inner faces of the clamping plates may also be roughened to grip the lining s and are located between a flange m and a plate x mounted on a bolt v, the other end of which carries a plate w against which the spring r abuts.
