FIELD: hydrogen production; fuel-cell power installations for vehicles. ^ SUBSTANCE: proposed method for producing hydrogen in vehicle power installations includes sequential processes of water-methanol mixture evaporation and steam reforming involving hydrogen extraction from gas mixture produced in this way. Prior to evaporation of water-methanol mixture aluminum is subjected to hydrolysis in alkali solution causing extraction of heat and hydrogen, alkali solution being preheated to temperature required to produce hydrogen within minimal time; after that water-methanol mixture is evaporated due to heat liberated in the course of hydrolysis. Aluminum hydrolyzed for the purpose functions during transient conditions of power installation as starting agent in general hydrogen production process. ^ EFFECT: enhanced speed of hydrogen production process using aluminum hydrolysis together with steam reforming. ^ 1 cl
