The present invention relates to novel histidine derivatives that can be used for the labeling of biomolecules with radioactive metal tricarbonyls. The new derivatives have a histidine that is derivatized at the Nepsilon and at least protected at the Nalpha and optionally at the Ndelta ; or derivatized at the Nalpha and at least protected at the Nalpha and optionally at the Ndelta ; or derivatized at the Nepsilon and N alpha and at least protected at the Nalpha and optionally at the N delta; or derivatized at the Nepsilon ; or derivatized at the Nalpha; or derivatized at the Nepsilon and Nalpha; or at least protected at the Nalpha and optionally at the N.Delta.
