The present invention concerns novel methods and compositions useful fo r providing a temporary visual indication of the location, concentration, and/ or time period of treatment of an applied material. The subject invention provides compositions and methods that use a temporary visual indicator. In certain embodiments, the temporary visual indicator is a pH sensitive visual agent (i.e., dye) that can be adde d either alone or in combination with other visual agents and/or pH modifying agents. In relat ed embodiments, compositions of the invention comprise a combination of at leas t one pH modifying agent and at least one pH-sensitive visual agent.
