The device includes a separating element (7), that is adjustable between an upper, boot space increasing position and a lower position. The device includes an articulated bearing four-joint mechanism (11,12) that moves the separating element, where the separating element is designed to match the outline of the soft top and/or the body parts, i.e. the boot lid or wheel housings (17), of the boot, so that the greatest possible boot area is achievable with the roof up and down. The separating element includes a raised center section, upwardly bent rear end (21) and lowered side parts, with the articulated bearing mechanism linked at the side parts, and the separating element bends (18,19,20) in a vehicle transverse direction. The device also includes a sensor element (22) or a position switch for recognition of the lowered position of the separating element (7), with the sensor connected to a soft top controller.
