PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control system capable of preventing hunting of engine speed near idling target revolution speed even if cruise target vehicle speed is set lower than idling walk by request of an operator or the like. SOLUTION: Since the lowest vehicle speed guard G is raised to the idling walkαand the cruise target vehicle speed MS is changed to the idling walkαwhen the cruise target vehicle speed MS is set lower than the idling walkα, engine revolution speed NE does not drop to revolution speed lower than idling target revolution speed MI. Consequently, since an ISC means does not act to keep engine revolution speed NE at idling target revolution speed MI or greater, hunting of engine revolution speed NE can be prevented.
