PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material which has high sensitivity, high Dmax and high contrast, ensures occurrence of few black spots, and suppresses tinting of a white background during storage in a dark place. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material has on a support at least one image forming layer containing a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a reducing agent for the organic silver salt, a photosensitive silver halide, a contrast enhancer and a binder and at least one non-photosensitive layer for protecting the image forming layer. The contrast enhancer is a compound selected from formulae (1)-(3) and at least one compound satisfying at least one of the following conditions A and B is contained; A: a hydrogen bond forming rate constant Kf is 20-4,000, B: the compound has a structure represented by general formula (I), (II), (III) or (IV) or has a phosphoryl group within a molecule.
