<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine to suppress the thermal degradation of an exhaust emission control catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust system of the internal combustion engine is provided with an exhaust manifold 10 having a plurality of branch pipes 13 connected to an exhaust port 9 of each cylinder and an exhaust merging part 14 to which each branch pipe 13 is connected at the downstream side end and exhaust gas merges from each cylinder, and an exhaust collecting pipe 115 connected to the exhaust gas merging part 14 at an end and connected to a catalyst convertor 11 at the other end. Ceramics 17 are installed in the inner peripheral surface only for the part where the temperature of the exhaust gas peaks in the exhaust gas collecting pipe. Thereby, an exhaust gas system part at the downstream side of the exhaust gas collecting pipe 15 of the catalyst convertor 11 etc. can be prevented from damaging resulting from the heat dissipation from the part where the ceramics 17 of the exhaust gas collecting pipe 15 are installed without introducing the excessively high temperature exhaust gas into the exhaust gas system part at the downstream side of the exhaust gas collecting pipe 15. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
