PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a powdery fine vinylpyrrolidone polymer not requiring another complicated process for compensating the reduced amount of a binder and not providing risk of reduction of rate of tableting when producing a tablet even if the used amount thereof as a binder is reduced; and to provide the binder for preparing a solid preparation by using the vinylpyrrolidone polymer obtained by the production method. SOLUTION: The powdery vinylpyrrolidone polymer containing≥70 wt.% particles having≤35μm particle diameters is produced by drying an aqueous solution of a vinylpyrrolidone polymer by a pulse shock wave dryer.
