PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin separator sheet for an alkaline battery decreasing the deterioration caused by a positive active material on the inside of a battery, having high airtightness, and having high short circuit preventing effect. SOLUTION: The separator sheet for separating a positive active material from a negative active material in the alkaline battery has such crystal structure that cellulose 1 and cellulose 2 coexist, the ratio of the cellulose 2 to the cellulose 1 is controlled, formed with alkali-treated pulp beaten to CFF 50-0 ml, has a thickness of 15-60μm, a degree of airtightness of 10-800 min/100 ml, an area contraction ratio of 2% or less, and the separator sheet is interposed between the positive active material and the negative active material.
