<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new fruit variant having not only preferable fruit size but also high capability of producing canned foods. <P>SOLUTION: A new plant variant pineapple (Ananas comosus) named 'P-1972', belonging to the family pineapple of the subclass Monocotyledoneae is provided. The new variant has a fruit having very thin shell, definite oval shape, a high carotene content and a sarcocarp of dark color.
