PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cosmetic composition for dyeing a keratin fiber, especially, a human keratin fiber including hair, to provide a method for dyeing the keratin fiber by using the composition, to provide a tool having a section containing the composition, and to provide a use of the composition for dyeing the hair. SOLUTION: This cosmetic composition contains at least one of hydroxyalkyl compound of general formula (I) and its mesomer form and at least one of cosmetic adjuvant in a suitable dyeing medium.
