PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display medium of which the density contrast will not lower, even if the display is rewritten repeatedly, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: In reference to particles for a display device having a property of being positively or negatively charged and having a color, the particles for the display device are characterized by containing≥0.03 mg to≤0.1 mg calcium element per 100 mg of total quantity of the particles and further containing≥0.004 mmol to <0.03 mmol nitrogen atom per 1 g of total quantity of the particles. The image display medium has a group of the particles for the display device, comprising at least two or more kinds of particles between a pair of substrates placed opposite to each other, wherein at least a kind of particles out of the group of the particles for the display device has the property of being positively charged; at least another kind of particles has the property of being negatively charged, the particles being positively charged and those being negatively charged have mutually different colors; and further at least a kind of particles out of the particles being positively charged and those being negatively charged is the particles for the display device.
