PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for sewing the side face of a Tatami mat which looks nice, which is pressed easily and which reduces time for sewing not only in the case of a Tatami mat of general thickness but also in the case of a thin Tatami mat. SOLUTION: In the case of sewing the Tatami mat, a fastened part 92 in an inverse truncated chevron shape is formed by being fed when performing idle sewing, and thereafter a first press part 94 and a second press part 96 parallel to the ridge line 11c of the Tatami mat 11 are formed. Furthermore, the fastened part 92 is formed again. This new trapezoidal sewing looks nice since the threads of an oblique part 92a downward slanting to the left and an oblique part 92b upward slanting to the left corresponding to both of the right and left end sides of a trapezoid are not vertical but oblique on the side face 11a of the Tatami mat 11 and the thread at the part is difficult to see in the case of looking from the front surface of the Tatami mat 11. The upper side (upper edge) of the trapezoid is easy to press since the first press part 94 and the second press part 96 have a double sewing part 93 between them. Furthermore, feeding is carried out at the oblique part 92a downward slanting to the left and the oblique part 92b upward slanting to the left, the time for sewing is reduced.
