<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective liquid crystal apparatus having high contrast, and to provide a reflective color liquid crystal apparatus which can display bright colors. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal apparatus is equipped with at least a polarizing plate, a retardation plate, a light-diffusing plate, an upper substrate having a transparent electrode, a liquid crystal layer, and a lower substrate having a metal reflective electrode, which are disposed in this order.
