PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica particle powder which is highly mono-dispersed and comprises flaky silica primary particles and/or leafy silica secondary particles, by drying slurry of leafy silica secondary particles through a simple method while maintaining their state in the aqueous slurry. SOLUTION: The highly mono-dispersed dry silica particle powder is provided by (i) hydrothermally treating silica hydrogel etc., in the presence of an alkali metal salt to form flaky silica tertiary coagulated particles, (ii) disintegrating and dispersing the silica tertiary coagulated particles in an aqueous slurry state to form the aqueous slurry comprising flaky silica primary particles and/or leafy silica secondary particles, (iii) adding an aqueous emulsion of a silicon-based compound to the aqueous slurry, mixing it and treating the mixture in a slurry state, (iv) drying it and (v) subjecting it to dry-disintegration.
