PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover loss of synchronism without returning a positioning member to a home position and without passing it through an absolute reference position. SOLUTION: This device has a width partition space (an elongated hole 14a) corresponding to the movable width for regulating the lateral movable width of a positioning member (a movable positioning member 2), and the device includes: a movable width regulating member (a regulating pulley 14) moved in the direction corresponding to the movement of the positioning member for setting the adjustment of a regulating position; and an engagement member (an engagement post 13) provided in a driving system of the positioning member to engage with the width partition space, wherein the movable width of the positioning member is determined and according to the width of the transported article (the sheet S), the positioning member is moved to set the movable position. The device is provided with a movable width regulating member fixing means (an electromagnetic brake 15) moved in adjusting the position of the movable width regulating member and fixed after setting.
