PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope which enables an operator to turnably operate a set of curvature operation knobs with ease by only one hand gripping an operation part of the endoscope and which enables the leading end of the endoscope to be easily operated in a desired direction, and a curvature operation assisting member for the endoscope. SOLUTION: This endoscope comprises: an insertion part with a curved part; the operation part; the first curvature operation knob which is arranged on one surface of the operation part, which has a plurality of recesses and a plurality of first protrusions and which is turned so that the curved part can perform a curvature operation in the first direction; and a second curvature operation knob which is superposed on the first curvature operation knob, which has a plurality of recesses and a plurality of second protrusions and which is turned so that the curved part can perform a curvature operation in the second direction. In the plurality of second protrusions, a length from the center of turning to each protruding end is greater than a length from a turning shaft to protruding ends of the plurality of first protrusions, and the recesses are provided in a surface facing a first near curvature operation part on which a circular orbit created by the turning of respective protruding ends of the plurality of first protrusions are projected.
