PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an upper tightening structure which can promise high holding and fitting characteristics. SOLUTION: The upper tightening structure covering the instep is provided with an elastic member 1 covering the side face of the foot and having an essential elasticity, a non-elastic member 2 covering a side face of the foot and essentially hardly extensible and a tightening member 5 which pulls the non-elastic member 2, and the elastic member 1 and non-elastic member 1 are joined together with a pair of junctions 31, 32, and they are formed so that the non-elastic member 2 is longer than the elastic member 1 within the length of a non-junction section 4 when they are not tightened, and when tensile force is given to the non-elastic member 2, the elastic member 1 extends as long as the length of the non-elastic member 2 and does not extend longer than the length of the non-elastic member 2.
