摘要

Disclosed is an electrode for fuel cells which is excellent in both durability and catalytic performance. Specifically disclosed is a cathode for fuel cells composed of a catalyst layer containing a carbon powder supporting a catalyst and a polymer electrolyte, a polymer electrolyte membrane and a gas diffusion layer, which cathode is characterized in that the amount of carbon having high water repellency in the catalyst layer is varied from the side which is in contact with the polymer electrolyte membrane to the gas diffusion layer side.
