ABROGEN POLYPEPTIDES, NUCLEIC ACIDS ENCODING THEM AND METHODS FOR USING THEM TO INHIBIT ANGIOGENESIS

The invention relates to novel abrogen polypeptides and nucleic acids that encode them. Abrogens can be derived from urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) kringle domain (ATF-kringle) sequences and fragments of uPA. Compositions and polypeptides encompassed by the invention can be used, for example, as potent in vitro an in vivo inhibitors of endothelial cell proliferation and also can be used for modulating angiogenesis in mammalian subjects and modulating proliferation of mammalian cells. Methods for producing abrogen polypeptides and compositions are also disclosed.
