It is intended to provide a method of screening a compound which directly activates glycogen synthase; an isolated nucleic acid encoding a mutant of glycogen synthase (2); a vector having this nucleic acid inserted therein; this vector to be used in gene therapy; a mutant of glycogen synthase (2); and a remedy for diabetes which contains this mutant as the active ingredient.
