POWDERY ACTIVATED CARBON FOR USE IN WATER TREATMENT AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide powdery activated carbon for use in water treatment restricting the pH value of treated water within a specification and suppressing the elution of calcium by solving the problem that, when crude activated carbon is used as powdery activated carbon for treatment of raw tap water, the pH value of treated water is raised too high and calcium in activated carbon is eluted and reacted with sulfuric acid in water to precipitate an insoluble calcium salt to damage equipment, and a manufacturing method therefor.

SOLUTION: The powdery activated carbon for use in water treatment is prepared by mixing concentrated phosphoric acid or sulfuric acid with activated carbon containing a water soluble calcium compound in an amount necessary to react with calcium so that the concentration of calcium ions contained in the liquid obtained according to the method shown in the item of "powdery activated carbon for tap water" of JWWA K113 is 15 ppm or below and the pH value of the liquid is 4-11.
