In a centrifugal separator for liquids containing abrasive sludge which is discharged continuously o r intermittently during the operation of the separator, the rigid inner surface of the separator bowl is formed, at the surfaces particularly exposed to wear, with recesses, depressions, pockets or like means so arranged that, during the separation, some sludge accumulates therein to form a layer over which the sludge being discharged slides, and is thus prevented from coming into direct contact with said surfaces. As shown, the bowl 1 is formed with steps 2 having an angle of inclination # which is less than the angle of repose # of the sludge. The bowl is also formed with recesses 4 each having a tangentially disposed sludge outlet 5 fitted with a detachable nozzle provided with a restricted nipple and a glass lining-sleeve. |
