PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing device allowing a worker to recognize a state of an opening and closing body during operation by a simple structure capable of reducing occurrence of failure or malfunction and providing excellent productivity. SOLUTION: In this opening and closing device provided with the openable and closable opening and closing body 10 and a driving source 33 for operating the opening and closing body 10, a load pattern being a change pattern of a load value Tx of the driving source 33 is detected during operation of the driving source 33, and the detected load pattern is compared with a master pattern being a change pattern of a load value stored in a storage device in advance to recognize the state of the opening and closing body 10.
