Disclosed is an alkaline cell wherein the positive electrode contains a manganese dioxide powder and a nickel oxyhydroxide powder having an average particle size of 8-18 µm as the positive electrode active material and a graphite powder having an average particle size of 8-25 µm as the conductive agent. The graphite powder is contained in an amount of 5-9 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the positive electrode active material.
