PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an impact generated when portable equipment is put into a receiving portion in a battery charger to charge a battery built in the portable equipment. SOLUTION: When the portable equipment, for example a handy-type bar code reader 5, is inserted into the receiving portion 4 of the battery charger 1, a cradle 7 to receive it moves downward to compress air in an air chamber 6 wherein the air is compressed, while the air in the air chamber 6 is caused to flow out little by little from a slot 8 by which resistance corresponding to a drift speed of the compressed air is exerted on the cradle 7 due to air. By such a constitution, even if the bar code reader 5 is vigorously inserted into the receiving portion 4 of the battery charger 1, the impact generated by this is relaxed by the compression of the air in the air chamber 6.
