PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus controller capable of smooth and high-speed switching control of AF system, in the focus control of a hybrid AF system. SOLUTION: The focus controller is provided with a first signal-generating means for generating a first signal FV according to the prescribed frequency component of a video signal TVS obtained by photoelectrically converting an object image formed by a photographing optical system, a distance detecting means 230 for detecting a distance to the object, a control means 233 for performing a first control in accordance with the first signal FV and a second control according to the distance which are the focus control of the photographic optical system and a second signal-generating means for generating a second signal IFA, according to the ratios of a plurality of frequency components which are different from each another in the video signal TVS.
