The invention relates to a dispensing element (101) having a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction, which dispensing element has a dispensing opening (106) provided with projections (110, 11) extending from opposite sides of the dispensing opening, wherein the dispensing element forms a separate component which has engagement means (112) for securing the dispensing element to a ready-made container for a stack of interfolded or mechanically connected sheets so that the dispensing opening of the dispensing element is arranged to be secured in overlap with an aperture provided in a top wall in the ready-made container. The invention further relates to a container (201) having engagement means (231 for securing a dispensing element to the container so that a dispensing opening of the dispensing element is arranged to be in overlap with the aperture provided in the top wall, and to a dispensing system comprising such a dispensing element and such a container.
