<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an organic EL device whereby a leak spot can be eliminated without damaging an organic EL element, and the organic EL device. <P>SOLUTION: An organic EL element A is formed by laminating an anode 2, an organic luminescent layer 3, and a cathode 4 one by one on the surface of a glass substrate 1. If for example a foreign matter 5 having conductivity exists in the organic luminescent layer 3 and the cathode 4 on the anode 2, there is a possibility that leak may occur between the anode 2 and the cathode 4 through this foreign matter 5 during operation. Therefore, under an inert gas atmosphere, a voltage is impressed between the anode 2 and the cathode 4 to pass a current therebetween, and thereby, the cathode 4 located around the foreign matter 5 is blown up by passing a leak current to cut off conduction between the cathode 4 and the foreign matter 5.
