IMAGE SCANNER, IMAGE READING METHOD, AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep resolution in a sub-scanning direction constant while absorbing readout timing deviation on an image sensor side when a color image formed on an arbitrary sheet is read. SOLUTION: The image scanner is equipped with: a linear image sensor 58 in which read sensors for red, green, and blue detection composed by arranging a plurality of photodetecting elements in a horizontal scanning direction are arranged at intervals of a specified distance in the sub-scanning direction orthogonal to the horizontal scanning direction and which reads light information of respective colors at the same vertical-scanning-directional position on a sheet irradiated with light by a light source in time series; an optical system driving section 59 which moves the sensor or a document 30 relatively in the sub-scanning direction; and a control unit 35 which controls inputs and output of the image sensor 58 and optical system driving section 59. The control unit 35 controls the optical system driving section 59 at a sub-scanning speed corresponding to a previously set variable magnification and independently controls the read sensors of the respective colors with readout control signals corresponding to the variable magnification.
