PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for cleaning the abrasive grain surface of a grinding wheel, the apparatus which is improved in removability of the chips stuck to the abrasive grain surface by giving the effect of the vibration grinding without using an expensive ultrasonic oscillator. SOLUTION: A grinding apparatus grinds a workpiece 1 by bringing an annular abrasive grain surface 4 of a disk shape grinding wheel 3 including a cup grinding wheel into contact with the disk shape workpiece 1. High pressure grinding fluid 7 is intermittently jetted toward the annular abrasive grain surface 6 so as to cause a minute vibration on the disk shape grinding wheel 3, the annular abrasive grain surface 6 being located at the separated position 9 separated from the grinding position 2 on the annular abrasive grain surface 4 of the disk shape grinding wheel for grinding the workpiece 1. The annular abrasive grain surface 6 of the disk shape grinding wheel 3 is washed with the grinding fluid at the separated position 9 during grinding the workpiece 1 by the annular abrasive grain surface 4 of the disk shape grinding wheel 3.
