<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage box which has a simple lid opening/closing mechanism, does not fail due to vibrations, and is handy. <P>SOLUTION: According to the storage box, a gas damper 6 is disposed between a box side mounting member 4 of a box body 2 and a lid side mounting member 5 of a lid 3. The lid 3 is usually closed by a lock mechanism, but is put in an openable state when a press button is pressed to release the lock mechanism 7. Upon releasing the lock mechanism 7, a piston rod 6a is slid by the pressure of a gas sealed inside the gas damper 6, and the lid 3 is automatically opened as a soft resilient force causes the piston rod 6a to extend. The piston rod 6a stops extending when a piston reaches its terminal position in the gas damper 6, thus bringing the opening move of the lid 3 to an automatic stop.
