PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a performance index by reducing thermal conductivity by adding dopants in a thermoelectric material for converting heat utilized for thermoelectric cooling and thermoelectric generation to electricity, and a method for manufacturing the thermoelectric material. SOLUTION: In the thermoelectric material containing at least two elements from a group consisting of bismuth, antimony, tellurium, and selenium, phosphate is used as a dopant, thus allowing phosphor to greatly reduce thermal conductivity, allowing paired elements to improve electrical conductivity, and providing the thermoelectric material having an improved performance index.
