PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To meet a high demand for improvement of workability and coating quality in the manufacture of plastic lenses, in the field of optical materials for eyeglass lenses or the like having a high refractive index and a high Abbe number. SOLUTION: The optical material comprises episulfide based sulfur atom-containing resin having a surface hardness of 2H or higher as measured in accordance with JIS K5400. The material has a high refractive index and a high Abbe number, contributing to provision of a high quality material that greatly improves workability in plastic lens manufacturing and that makes high performance coating applicable.
