PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the conversion of a polymer terminal structure expressed by general formula (1) (R<SB>1</SB>is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, alkenyl group, aryl group, a saturated or unsaturated carbocyclic or heterocyclic group, an alkoxy group or a heterocyclic group bonding through nitrogen atom) and provide a method for producing a resist resin having narrow dispersion and excellent transmittance. SOLUTION: The terminal structure of a narrow dispersion polymer having a polymer terminal structure of general formula (1) is converted by reacting the polymer with a chain transfer agent and a free radical source.
