The gear unit for a drive motor, e.g. for a door, has a clutch (1) which can be in a coupled or a locked setting. The clutch has a drive shaft with carriers (2) at the end, with moving clamping bodies (3) between them around the head (4) of a take-off shaft. The head has coupling surfaces (5) against the clamping bodies in the coupled setting, to transfer torque from the drive shaft to the take-off shaft. A brake ring (6) with a clamping surface is around the clamping bodies to detach them from the coupling surfaces when there is a counter torque from the take-off shaft. The clutch is at the take-off side of the gearing so that it takes up any counter torque and protects the gearing.
