<p>Method for measuring hydrocarbon (HC) emission of test samples, present in a test chamber filled with a carrier gas, in which the HC concentration in the carrier is measured and from this the mass of HC emitted from the chamber is calculated. During the measurement, chamber (4) is connected with the surroundings through a gas lock (12) in which carrier medium of known HC content (w) is present, and at short time intervals the rate of HC emissions by weight (dm/dt(HC)) of the sample is calculated from the volume (VK), pressure (pK), temperature (TK) and HC concentration (wK) in (4), from which the mass flow (dm/dt(zu)) in (4) and mass outflow (dm/dt(ab)) are deduced.
