The holding device (K) comprises a main element in the shape of an R for being pushed over a railing (P, Q) located at the hospital bed. A suction cup (A, B) held at the outer end of a threaded bar (C) guided through a bore in one of the vertical segments (M) of the R is moved against the opposite segment (L). The inner surface of the element (K) is coated with a soft layer (E) in order to avoid scratches. The carrying unit is joined to the holding device (K) by engaging an outer thread at the lower end of the bar (H) with an inner thread (F) on top of the holding element (K).
