PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fault protection for each service of a packet network and a method and apparatus for restoration therefrom.
SOLUTION: A reception packet is classified, using one or a plurality of rules for determining whether the reception packet should be protected at each end point based on the information of the header part of the packet. At an entrance node, if the packet classification has been determined such that the reception packet should be protected, the reception packet is transmitted through at least two routes. At an exit node, if the packet classification has been determined such that the reception packet is protected, a plurality of versions of the reception packet are predicted, but only one version of the reception packet is transmitted. Protection is made possible, by applying a priority order from an aggregation level to a microflow level to the traffic. The protection can be limited to fault sensitivity service. After a link fault, the protected data can be restored rapidly and efficiently, without conspicuous service interruption.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
|
