<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear light emitting element and a light emitting device having the linear light emitting element capable of saving an operation of attaching electric wiring to the light emitting device and reducing a labor, time and cost required for the manufacture of the light emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device comprises the linear light emitting element which radiates light made incident from the end surface of the linear main body from a side peripheral surface of the linear main body by forming a reflective surface on the side surface of the linear main body and a holder which has a retaining part for retaining both end parts of the linear light emitting element and a light source part of radiating light toward the both end surfaces of the linear light emitting element.
